MY STORY

I started life as an illustrator young. I have many memories spent doodling characters for hours with imaginary names and life styles each one depicted with some over the top accessory. Ridiculous shoes, an inside out umbrella, an extremely wayward barnet, the list goes on.

As for the performer in me. This was nurtured in the endless staging of plays and shows with my siblings. The playing out of imaginary worlds continued during my training at, Central School of Speech and Drama. My main discipline

was design but it was the opportunity

to perform and co-devise a piece that toured during London Fringe Festival that really captured my imagination. The thread of the show was told through a wardrobe that came to life and a miniature human being constructed out of masking tape.

We went on as a group to perform in 'Cellarworks', a site specific piece written and created by Penny Bernard and Sue Buchmaster of the the innovative children's theatre company, Theatre Rites. These and other experiences became great fodder for the myriad of silly voices and theatrics required to pull off a lively narration of stories of my own.

The catalyst that finally returned me to my illustrative and storytelling roots was becoming a mother. The day to day initiations of parenthood, set the scene for the emergence of some weird and wonderful

narratives. Ideas came thick and fast, until they were scribbled down on a scrap of paper, a napkin, my arm, whatever was available. I have been writing and drawing ever since and am delighted to  be sharing the first of four books and audiobooks entitled, ‘Mermaid Soup’.

You can find me on Instagram, hashing out ideas and illustrations for my next creations. Leave your comments and ideas. You never know, one of your suggestions may feature in my next story!
